A Guide to LED Downlights

As the days become shorter and the weather gets colder, people will soon be spending an increasing amount of time indoors.  Because of this, the indoor lighting of spaces will be incredibly important, whether they are residential, commercial or industrial.

It’s key that the needs of each lighting situation are met, and in this series of blog posts, we will explore a selection of key types of lighting fixtures and explain what they are used for, and why they are so effective. Today’s key type of indoor lighting is LED downlights.

What are LED Downlights?

Today’s key type of indoor lighting is LED downlights.  LED downlights are fixtures that are installed above a ceiling to illuminate a room or space from above.  They are the most common type of lighting fixtures present in residential homes and are popular due to their unintrusive nature, and general heat and lighting they provide. They are typically installed throughout a room during construction, but you can also retrofit individual lights.

What are the benefits of LED Downlights?

There are various types of LED Downlights available, and it’s important to be aware of what uses they are best suited for.

For example, if you need downlights for your kitchen, it is best to opt for a cooler colour and adjustable lights for maximum visibility. For bathrooms, you should consider downlights with a high voltage to prevent any slips and falls.

For commercial and industrial applications it is best to use fixed lights that have a wider beam angle, as they will cover the most surface area possible.  For residential areas, you may use a narrow beam angle if the space is suited to it.
